Dr. Karen McGee, ND
Naturopathic physician

I grew up in Sechelt, a small town on the Sunshine Coast.I was first introduced to naturopathic medicine at the age of nineteen when I moved to North Vancouver.I had great health improvements and it became apparent to me that lifestyle greatly affects how we look, how we feel, and is the cause of many of health problems.

My education began in computer sciences. After studying for two years, I realized I did not have the same passion as my fellow students for this discipline.I decided to re-evaluate my academic decisions and chose to work as a full time manager at Good Nature Health Foods in North Vancouver.

I have learned a great deal working in this health industry for 10 years.I was exposed to all sorts of people needing health advice and treatment.I realized I needed to have a deeper understanding of my client’s physiology to make a difference with their chronic problems. The next logical step for me was to become a health practitioner, and naturopathic medicine was a natural choice. After completing the required sciences at Simon Fraser University, I enrolled in the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine’s 4 year naturopathic medical program in New Westminster, BC.During my time at the Boucher Institute I chose to grow my family and was blessed with my daughter, Emily. This new addition to my family has introduced a passionate interest in children and women’s health. While at the Boucher Institute I was honored to receive the Community Contribution award. In my last year of school I completed my Bowen Therapy certification and my IV certification which will be great tools in my practice.

I believe one of my best assets is my ability to listen.I have developed the patience to hear a persons’ story without jumping to conclusions and before making my treatment suggestions.I have a passion to help people and I want to empower my patients and give them options.I believe my own experiences will allow me to relate to my patients and encourage a healthy lifestyle.

To keep myself balanced and to help fulfill some of my extra interests, I have joined a book club in my free time.I have been introduced to many books that I may not normally read on my own; one of my favorites so far was ‘The Secret life of Bees’.Joining a gourmet dinner club fulfills my keen interest in cooking and food.I love to exercise, spend time in the garden and most of all I love to spend time with my family.
